‘Rain Funnels’ aims to address the increased water accessibility crisis in Mexico City. Presented as a proposal for the Mextropoli 2019 festival’s pavilion, the proposal showcases the power of passive water collection. A series of wooden frames hold funnel-shaped, machine cut tarp collectors that redirect water into a small tank. The pavilions central location in Mexico City’s Alameda would bring consciousness to the fact that Mexico City receives millions of gallons of water from the sky, which do not get collected. After the festival, the timber modules would be repurposed into community centers and public spaces, to collect water for irrigation.
