Architecture At Face Value: Its Role In Business’s Success
Share

You may have heard of an Architect, but you are likely to walk past architectural beauty on a daily basis and not even recognize it. Architects, however, play a large role in how well a business does as people take some businesses from their street side presentation.

It is not unusual for a business to choose their location solely on the building design and if they were to have their very own building-built custom made, an Architect of their liking would need to be chosen.

The Role of Architects for Businesses

In simple terms, architecture encompasses the process of designing buildings and spaces. This usually ranges from buildings with a wide range of purposes like homes, offices, shops or public areas.

The role of an architect is complex, as they not only have to consider factors such as the outer beauty, but it also has to consider the functionality and safety of the building’s design. This is because these factors can alter the way the business operates within the building and will directly affect customer experience, profitability and long-term success.

In terms of ‘face value’ it refers to the immediate impression a building gives to its visitors or potential customers. While business owners may have an idea about the impression they want to send out, architects are responsible for turning this vision into a reality.

Finding the Right Commercial Property

Looking into architecture also comes into play a lot when you are looking into selecting the right commercial property for your business. Especially if you are looking for a long-time location. Finding the right property in the right location can enhance the visibility of your business, enhance operations, and can contribute to its long-term success. When searching for these properties you may find it difficult finding CRE owners, which is an important process as it will give your business direct access to the people that oversee the lease terms, pricing and uses of the property.

It is essential for a business to find a property that matches its brand identity, if possible, whilst also keeping their budget in mind. This counts for both the interior design and exterior. For a business that involves a lot of technology, a building with smart and modern design features may be a great option., Or if you value the more rustic look you may want to look at properties that feature historical elements such as original uncovered bricks and high ceilings that add character to the location.

It is important to prioritize budget in this case as the cost of a building is not just its main price tag. You must consider the bills that will come with the building and the maintenance costs, especially if it is an old property, you are looking at.  If you are just starting a business, make sure to have an emergency fund set in place as this will be beneficial if unexpected costs occur.

As a business owner it should be at the forefront of your decisions that trends begin to change, along with people’s preferences. In most cases it’s inevitable that your business will expand and change whilst you are occupying the property. So, it is crucial to find a premises that can be modified to fit your business over the years. For instance, you may want to look for spaces with open floor plans as they will make it easier for you to adjust the layout of your business and can help you accommodate more staff and possibly departments.

Zoning laws are also something you need to consider before purchasing a property, as some may prevent you from attempting to modify or change the space once you need to. Make sure to plan out the accessibility of your property so that it does not hinder anyone trying to use your business.  This does not just include clients and customers, it also includes suppliers and employees that may need additional accessibility.

Therefore, you must factor in mobility needs such as having ramps and other features to accommodate everyone and project a message of inclusivity.

Final Thoughts

Architecture, when you take it at face value, plays a huge role in your business’s success. The architecture may even be the reason the customer visited your location in the first place. A consumer will judge your business from the outside first and will also access whether they can enter the building easily.

Choosing the right commercial property for your business may mean the difference between your business lasting 2 to 5 years, you never know. Make sure to use the tools available out there to find the right location and property for you, as it will save you time and help you find the perfect building for you.
