Every template is one drawing in three formats: a layered SVG master with four switchable colour styles (line only, monochrome, accent colour, pastel), a 2400 px PNG preview and a slide of native shapes in the family’s PowerPoint file. Labels are live text in square brackets, layers are named the same way in every file (base, fills, linework, arrows, labels, guides), so you replace the placeholders, switch the style and drop the diagram on your board.

100 precedent analysis sheets (A3, PDF and PNG, plus one combined PDF): buildings from 1924 to 2018 in 35 countries, from the Rietveld Schröder House and Villa Savoye to Kunsthaus Bregenz. Each sheet has a summary, lessons for your own project, keywords and six diagrams: massing and form idea, plan organisation, circulation, light and section, structure and envelope, key concept. Also a blank sheet template (SVG, PPTX, PDF), a 6 page “How to Analyse a Precedent” guide and an Excel index with architect, year, city, country, type and era.

Photoshop and Illustrator assets: 582 brushes in 7 ABR sets (tree elevations, plan trees, elevation people, top view people, isometric diagram elements, diagram symbols, sky, water and texture) with a preview of every brush, plan and diagram layer styles (ASL), sky and diagram gradients (GRD), 9 pattern sets (PAT), 13 Illustrator pattern libraries with seamless SVG and PNG tiles, 140 seamless hatch tiles as 2048 px PNG, and 9 Illustrator scripts (scale selection, line weights, scale bar, grid generator, north arrow, room labels, presentation style, rename layers, export artboards).

The Diagram Method Handbook (105 pages, A4 and US Letter): 16 chapters with 81 figures and 20 checklists, from the diagram workflow and graphic language through every template family to diagrams in Illustrator, Affinity, Inkscape, Figma, PowerPoint and Photoshop, diagrams from CAD, BIM, SketchUp and Rhino, the precedent analysis method and diagrams on boards and in portfolios.

🧩 Formats and compatibility

• SVG templates and components: Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Inkscape and Figma. Template text is set in Inter, a free font included in the kit (SIL Open Font License), with Arial as the fallback.
• PPTX templates and the blank precedent sheet: Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote and Google Slides. The PowerPoint slides use Arial.
• PNG files with transparent backgrounds work in any image or layout program.
• ABR, ASL, GRD, PAT: Adobe Photoshop (the brush notes give CC 2018 and later). PAT files also import into Affinity Photo.
• JSX scripts: Adobe Illustrator. Palettes: ASE for Adobe apps, GPL for GIMP and Inkscape, CSS for the web, CSV for spreadsheets.
• PDF handbook, catalogs and sheets open in any PDF reader.

💡 Good to know

• The precedent sheets are schematic diagrams drawn for this kit from widely published descriptions of each building. They are not photographs, not to scale and not copies of the architects’ drawings.
• The figure-ground city maps are made from OpenStreetMap data (ODbL). Keep the attribution “Map data (c) OpenStreetMap contributors” visible when you publish them; it is in the README.
• Plans in the templates are schematic and chart values are examples in brackets: replace them with your own scale and data.
• The Photoshop and Illustrator assets have not been opened in every version of those programs. If a file does not load in yours, write to us and we will help.
