Cairo Design Week is Egypt’s leading celebration of design and creativity, uniting architects, designers, artists, and cultural institutions across the city. Since its launch in 2022, the event has aimed to highlight Egypt’s vibrant design scene and position Cairo as a dynamic regional hub for art, architecture, and innovation.

Taking place from 20–29 November 2025, this year’s edition will transform Cairo into a multi-district design journey. Key areas such as Heliopolis, Zamalek, and Downtown Cairo will host exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops, and pop-up pavilions, each showcasing the intersection of heritage and contemporary design. From product and furniture design to architecture, interior spaces, and visual arts, the event provides an inclusive platform for both emerging and established creatives.

What makes Cairo Design Week remarkable is its urban and cultural context. Rather than being confined to a single venue, the festival activates streets, historical buildings, and public spaces—blending Cairo’s rich architectural legacy with forward-thinking design approaches. This immersive experience invites visitors to explore how design can shape everyday life, foster sustainability, and connect communities.

Beyond exhibitions, the week encourages dialogue through educational initiatives and collaborations with universities, creating opportunities for young designers to engage directly with professionals and international audiences. By bridging local craftsmanship with global perspectives, Cairo Design Week reflects the evolving identity of Egyptian design and its growing influence on the world stage.

Tradition Meets Innovation in the Heart of Cairo

Cairo Design Week stands out as more than just another design festival by celebrating the intersection of heritage and contemporary creativity, using Cairo’s historic districts as a living stage for modern design. The event’s rapidly growing scale and ambition bring together local and international talent, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange. Its inclusive approach welcomes professionals, students, and the general public alike, creating an open dialogue about design’s role in everyday life.  Here are some of the strong points of CDW that make it more than just “another festival”:

  • Heritage + contemporary design interplay
One of the angles of CDW is that it uses Cairo’s architecture, urban fabric, historic districts, to frame contemporary design. For instance Heliopolis’ Art-Deco and Neo-Islamic architectural styles are cited as a backdrop.
This makes the festival visually and culturally rich: you’re not just seeing design pieces, but seeing them placed in real urban and historic context.

  • Growing scale & ambition
The event is expanding quickly, for example, the 2025 edition is billed as the “largest and most ambitious” edition yet, spanning more districts, more public installations, more inclusive in terms of audience.
So if you’re into the “cutting edge design festival” scene, it’s increasingly placing Cairo on the map alongside more established design cities.

  • Inclusive & multi-layered audience
While a lot of design festivals are very industry-only, CDW explicitly aims to engage not only professionals, but students, the general public, and emerging talent. For example the 2025 edition introduces a “Universities Initiative” to give students exposure.  This means it’s more accessible; you don’t have to be a design insider to attend and find value.

  • Networking & local talent boost
It provides a platform for Egyptian designers, makers, brands to showcase their work to regional/international audiences. This kind of exposure and cultural exchange helps grow the local ecosystem.

  • Urban experience
Because the festival activates streets, public spaces, even entire districts, it becomes more than exhibitions in one building. It becomes an experience of the city. For example: “street activations, large-scale installations, immersive exhibitions, pop-up pavilions” for 2025.
