The Elo Apartment’s interior design epitomizes the perfect blend of organization, color, material selection, cozy furniture, pleasant temperature, and warm lighting, all key elements in fostering well-being and quality of life. This project was tailored for an elderly couple, set to be their home filled with family stories. The renovation of the over 40-year-old, 52-square-meter property focused on promoting healthy aging for the clients, infused with modern and sophisticated details.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a spacious, integrated living room, designed with family gatherings in mind. Though the couple lives alone, they wished to host visitors occasionally without compromising the apartment’s space. The solution? A versatile seasonal room. Previously, a standard guest room occupied significant space and saw limited use. Now, it serves a dual purpose: as an extension of the living room and as a private bedroom when needed. A wooden folding door allows for complete separation from the living area, ensuring guest privacy and comfort with a sofa bed, leather armchair, utility cabinet, and continuous LED lighting. This door can also be opened to enhance the flow and spaciousness of the apartment.
The kitchen, initially characterized by an outdated classic design and restricted by two immovable structural columns, was transformed into an open space. Deep grey cabinetry and a large white marble island with an integrated cooktop now define the area. Despite its compact size, the kitchen’s extensive cabinetry makes it highly functional, addressing the clients’ need for ample storage space. One structural column, impossible to remove, was cleverly clad in mirrors, as was the glass cabinet next to the sofa, creating an illusion of expanded space.
In the living room, textures play a key role in the comfort offered by the apartment, making the most of every square meter. A black wooden sideboard behind the sofa serves both decorative and practical purposes, housing two contrasting straw stools. The combination of a sisal rug and an off-white sofa maintains a harmony of neutral tones, while a black slatted cabinet built into the TV panel adds a touch of contrast.
An innovative structural solution is found in the private quarters of the apartment: a large bathroom was converted into two smaller ones. Now, the apartment boasts a social bathroom and a private en-suite for the couple, both featuring wooden finishes and built-in niches for added shower space.
The master suite is a study in efficient use of space and color contrast, with built-in cabinets offering ample storage and balancing deep grey with ivory tones. A desk in the corner, paired with a comfortable grey chair, creates a cozy nook for reading and computer use, further enhancing the apartment’s blend of functionality and elegant design.
