Located in São Paulo, Brazil, the Arena creative multifunctional space is a project designed by architect Karina Passarelli, head of Studio KP Arquitetura. Covering 200 m², the space was born from the desire to create an environment dedicated to self-knowledge and creative expression — one that, through architecture, could transport users into an inner world, disconnecting them from external stimuli and encouraging new perceptions.

Set within a business district of the city, the space was conceived as a multifunctional environment, featuring areas carefully designed for different types of activities. The program includes a reception area, two psychology offices, a multipurpose room, a fully equipped podcast recording studio, a coffee break and bar area, and the arena itself — an auditorium with bleacher seating for up to 25 people, ideal for presentations and corporate training sessions. Universal-access restrooms and terraces with sofas, benches, and tables encourage moments of interaction and relaxation among users.

The architect carried out a complete renovation, which included opening walls to integrate the spaces, replacing finishes, developing a new lighting design, and building the wooden bleacher-style arena — the heart of the project. The purpose, however, went beyond the functional. The goal was to create a playful and immersive space where architecture, art, and scenography transport visitors into a universe of new perceptions.

Playfulness became the guiding concept of the project. Each area was designed as a sensory experience, capable of evoking emotions and reflection. In the reception area, the concept draws from the idea of a dense, dark forest. Embracing sofas ensure privacy even in a collective space, while dramatic lighting and artwork invite introspection. The corridor, with its theatrical light and artworks celebrating freedom, encourages visitors to pause and reflect.
The psychology offices reinterpret the classic analyst’s room, with wood paneling, heavy fabrics, and velvets, complemented by warm, indirect lighting that enhances comfort and familiarity. Each office is defined by a distinctive color, such as burgundy or mustard. In the coffee break area and the arena, grass-textured flooring with organic shapes, hanging plants, and vintage touches — like a bright orange retro refrigerator — create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Futon benches and cushions complete the cozy setting, inviting relaxation.
The multipurpose room follows an industrial and casual aesthetic, featuring vibrant colors and modular tables, while the podcast studio balances technology and scenography with ropes and stage lighting that merge the technical and artistic. In the restrooms, unexpected details reinforce the playful narrative — from hand towels with inspiring messages to small ant sculptures that appear as delightful visual surprises.

The color palette varies according to the function and mood desired in each space. Moss-green tones dominate the reception area, evoking a connection with nature, while the collective and creative zones embrace a more colorful, relaxed composition. Neutral finishes serve as a base for furniture and objects — most sourced from antique markets — to express personality and history.
Lighting design plays a strategic role, alternating between focused highlights on artworks and softer, diffuse scenarios that shape the atmosphere according to each use. In the main areas — such as the arena, offices, and studio — lighting was divided into zones, allowing for flexible configurations and moods ranging from functional to intimate to theatrical.
Beyond its aesthetic and symbolic appeal, the project integrates technological solutions for sound and video automation, ensuring technical excellence for lectures and recordings. Completed in 2024, after seven months of construction, Arena offers a new way of experiencing creative space — where architecture acts as a mediator between introspection, sensitivity, and well-being.
