The USC School of Architecture is holding Hyperpractice Los Angeles, a one day symposium on 20 October 2026 at RIOS, 3101 W Exposition Place, Los Angeles. The event poster lists a new time of 1 to 6 pm, replacing the 10 am to 4 pm originally announced on the school’s event page, so check the time before attending. Attendance is by RSVP.
The symposium examines a way of working the field is only beginning to name: practice that happens through connections among parallel offices, across their approaches to media, authorship, technique, reputation and risk, questioning the idea of the architecture office as an independent unit. Against rising living costs, stagnant wages and growing financial pressure on emerging architects, it asks how collective practice can open new routes for creative work, discourse and economic viability.
Bringing together practitioners, academics and cultural producers, the programme looks at office archives, contracts, digital personas and professional recognition, and draws comparisons with collaborative production in music, film and fashion.
