FAQ · Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What should an architecture portfolio include?

A short selection of your strongest projects, each with drawings, images and a few lines of text that explain the idea. Add a cover, a contents page and your contact details, and send a CV with it when you apply.

How many projects should be in an architecture portfolio?

Quality matters more than quantity. Choose the projects that best fit the office or school you are applying to, lead with the strongest one, and leave out work that repeats the same skills.

What size should an architecture portfolio be?

A4 and A3 are common, in landscape or portrait, with a lighter PDF for email. Check what the office or school asks for first; our size and format guide compares the options.

Should my architecture portfolio be digital or printed?

Most applications start with a PDF or a website, and a printed copy helps in an interview. Our digital vs physical guide explains when each one works best.

Do I need a CV and a cover letter as well as a portfolio?

Usually, yes. The CV lists your education, experience and software skills, the cover letter explains why you want the role, and the portfolio or a short work sample shows the design work behind both.

Is the colour palette tool free?

Yes. The Color Palette Creator runs in the browser with no account, so you can build one consistent set of colours for your portfolio pages and boards.
