Lumion 2024.3: It’s Time to Enhance Urban Visualization

With 5x faster video rendering, a remarkable improvement in material quality, and more realistic lighting and shadow updates, Lumion 2024 has received great feedback from its users. The Lumion 2024.3 Update continues to impress—this time gaining attention from urban planners. Highlighted by the slogan “Shape Cities with Lumion 2024.3,” the latest update brings powerful new features that support and enhance urban design workflows. Let’s take a closer look at how this version contributes to city planning.

Features of Lumion 2024

Before examinig this update, you can see below the key features introduced in the Lumion 2024 version released a few months ago.

5x Faster Video Renders

With Lumion 2024, you can get the same high-quality ray-traced results while using fewer samples than before. This major improvement means your videos render much faster, saving valuable time. It also makes it easier to add realistic and animated visuals to architectural design reviews and client presentations—without long waiting periods.

Ray-Traced Glass Magic

Lumion 2024 takes glass rendering to a new level with fully ray-traced glass, allowing you to capture every fine detail—like soft reflections, light distortions, and natural variations found in real-world glass objects.

One of the most visually striking updates is the ability to render colored shadows from tinted glass. When light passes through colored glass, it casts soft shadows in that same hue onto nearby surfaces—just like in real life. For example, blue stained glass will cast a cool blue shadow, adding depth, drama, and color dynamics to interiors or artistic scenes. This subtle effect brings even more realism and mood to your renders, making them feel vibrant and lifelike.

Soft Surfaces, Strong Impact

Materials like marble, fabric, and polycarbonate can bring a soft and elegant feel to your designs. These translucent surfaces affect how light flows through a space, creating atmosphere and drawing the viewer’s eye.

With Lumion 2024, it’s now easier to make these materials look more realistic using subsurface scattering. This feature, now supported by ray tracing, helps you show how light gently passes through and reflects inside the material. The result is a more natural and rich look, showing the true depth, glow, and texture of surfaces like never before.

What is in Lumion 24.3 Update?

In Lumion 2024.3, architects and urban designers bring spotlights and omnilights straight from their CAD or 3D modeling software into the project. This makes their work smoother by combining the lighting setup with their model. Supported file types include FBX, Collada, glTF, and DWG, and everyone can easily adjust brightness, color, and cone angle.

For the users of AutoCAD or BricsCAD, Lumion also imports IES light profiles without any extra steps. These lights stay linked to your model, so they move together and are easy to control. It is ready to restore or tweak your imported lights right inside Lumion, making lighting management simpler and faster.

Also, there is a new set of outdoor and construction-themed assets shows the variety found in city environments. These flexible objects and materials help you represent many common urban scenes. By using and mixing them in urban designs, you can bring out the small details that make your city projects look real and believable.
